Many look at the lashes of actresses and exotic models with envy. However, if you listen to the manufacturers of Idol Lash, you do not have to be jealous any more. But are these claims hype, or does the product deliver on these lofty expectations?
What Is Idol Lash?
Idol Lash is a preparation designed to make your lashes grow longer and look thicker. It comes in tubes which are supposed to be applied to the base of your upper and lower lashes after removing your makeup and prior to going to bed. The product also can be used to enhance thin eyebrows as well.
What is Idol Lash made of?
Idol Lash consists of a cocktail of natural ingredients specially designed to promote eyelash health. These ingredients include chamomile extract, honey extract, keratin, cocyl, kelp extract, moisturizing agents, various vitamins and polypeptides. These ingredients provide lashes with all the building blocks necessary to build beautiful lashes and stimulate the production of keratin, the main component of eyelashes.
Will Idol Lash change my eye color?
You might be familiar with prescription eyelash enhancers like Latisse which have been known to have the side effect of changing one’s eye color if one accidentally drops it in the eye. These agents actually are manmade pharmaceutical products that are also used for the treatment of glaucoma. While pharmaceutical products tend to be engineered to be more potent, they also tend to have unwanted side effects since they are man-made and we only have a cursory understanding of what these chemicals do to other components of the body.
Idol Lash is completely different from these formulations and and is comprised active ingredients which are found in nature. As a result, these substances tend to be compatible with your body and decrease the chance of unexpected side effects and irritation seen with pharmaceutical products. There appear to be no reported cases of Idol Lash resulting in a change of eye color, or the other topical side effects reported with Latisse.
Another benefit of Idol Lash over Latisse besides the price is also that it does not require a prescription.
Will Idol Lash thicken my lashes?
No, this is not currently possible. The thickness of each lash is largely determined by genetics. Anyone that says they can thicken your lashes is exaggerating. What Idol Lash claims to do is enhance the growth of existing lashes, increasing eyelash density so that overall your lashes have the appearance of being thicker.
Is There Any Objective Evidence That This Works?
Anecdotal evidence and testimonials can be somewhat biased given that we are all different and not one treatment will work for all people. Unlike most natural preparations, a small clinical trial was carried out using Idol Lash on 15 subjects aged 24 to 82 years. The subjects used Idol Lash every night for two weeks and then lash length was measured by NIR imaging and SigmaScan software so one could get an objective measurement of the results.
The result was that on average, there was a 25% increase in eyelash length and an 82% increase in eyelash density for the people in the study. That does not mean it worked on everyone, just that on average that was the length of increase that was seen. Additionally, tests on lash producing cells showed that there was an over 80% increase in the expression of keratin when exposed to Idol Lash. So there appears to be some scientific basis to believe this product should at least work on large proportion of people trying it.
How long will it take to see results?
The company claims on its web site that someone can see noticeable visual effects in only 4 weeks. Indeed it appears that in the clinical study, there was objective growth on average in as little as 2 weeks. However, I have seen some reports online that it can take some people as much as 6 to 10 weeks to notice results, which might be do to the timing of the eyelash growth cycle.
What do customers have to say about the product?
The reviews on Idol Lash are in general quite positive. In comparison to other products it has some of the most favorable reviews, particularly for its price point. In fact, I found someone who had literally done a comparison of 7 different products who highlighted Idol Lash as being one of the ones that worked for her.
There are other products such as Latisse and Neulash which some find more potent, but generally cost over $100 a tube. On the other hand I saw several reviews by people who had the best experience with Idol Lash, even when compared to Latisse; each person is going to be different. Note also that even though Latisse was one of the cheaper products, some positive reviews still complained about the price – at a retail price of $49.95. Here are some of the reviews by people who experienced strong results:
Not all the reviews I read were positive, however. As with all products (including effective pharmaceutical products), this will cannot be expected to work on everyone. Most commonly it appears that many who had negative opinions had given up at the 4 week mark, and it is unclear if there would have been any benefit out to 6-10 weeks.
Will It Work For You?
While there appears to be a good chance it will work based on the clinical data and anecdotal comments, it does not appear to work for everyone. The only way to really know if it will work is to try it yourself. Unfortunately, using the product for up to a month to see if it works is not exactly cheap.
There are some ways of mitigating this expense if you are truly motivated to dazzle everyone with some really stunning new lashes. At the company’s website they are currently running a special discount program. Note that you will likely need to order it from their official website to obtain the discounts.
One can purchase 1 tube for $39.95, 2 tubes for $69.95, 4 for $119.95, or 6 tubes for $159.95. Each tube lasts about 1 month. Thus it is possible to purchase the product for as little as $26.69 a tube, nearly half the retail price.
If you click on the “Terms, Legal & Herbal Safety Guidelines” at the bottom of the company’s web page (scroll all the way down) you will find out that the company has a 90 day return policy for any reason. So if you try it and it does not work, you can return the UNOPENED bottles and receive a refund on the discount price based on the total amount purchased (i.e. $26.69 minus a $6.00 restocking fee for each unopened bottle). Note that shipping is not refundable.
